Hey Gals! I am Divya and this is my first blog.

So, how many of you do like rainy season? I would speculate that not a lot of you do, given the muddy, water logging and traffic jam conditions in India!

Well, I must be an exception, because I love the rains! I love how the earth turns up green and every tree, plants, even grass, loves the season and turn up the most beautiful shade of green they could! Oh, you must have guessed my favorite color!

I love how 3-4 months of dark and gloom add up the humidity to the dry earth and fuels Indian economy by watering the crops right from the sky!

That said, we don't need to stay gloomy and dark when it comes to our wardrobes.

I will discuss some tips for your monsoon phase, even though, I am not a fashion expert. this is just another girl expressing her views and creativity.

  • Colors: The clouds have already covered a lot of light and by wearing darker colors, you might kind of hide in the gloomy weather. I would say, rather represent the happy and healthy, and greener earth, popping out against the dark and gloom of the weather.  So light and bright are your colors for the season. Now, how light and bright you might want to carry, depends and also reflects your mood, age and persona.
  • Fabric: We Indians have a natural bond with cotton regardless of weather and conditions. That sounds like me for sure, if not you. And, that almost always works for Indian conditions! But, I would love you to try lighter, more synthetic fabrics, for example, georgette and chiffon. Anything that's light to wear and easier to get dried off just in case....and they are usually more vibrant in colors and designs!
  • Style Code: I would, from what I have learned from being in fashion industry, suggest anything that doesn't touch the muddy ground, is too bulky or heavy to carry, because you already have to carry something like umbrella or trenchcoat to keep you dry. So, give Cinderella, floor length gowns a rest. Pun intended. Well, capris are our favorites for the younger generation and for a little bigger girls like me, not-so-tight-fitting denims (which I roll up to the ankles), Palazzos with short Kurtis, wide legged trousers or denims  must work. About top, again, loose fitting, which don't hug skin, favorably flowing, colorful and bright to match up.
  • Don'ts: I would strictly say no to body hugging, thick fabrics, stretchable, tight fitting dresses e.g. bodycons.
  • Footwear: I wouldn't suggest you to invest in gumboots! Just that don't wear things that have heavy designs and patterns. Anything that soaks water and gets damaged should be avoided. Heels can wait unless they have a tendency to hold ground with necessary friction. I'd suggest lightweight waterproof non slippery footwear.
  • Extras: Carry scarves with you. Stoles work equally well. When it keeps pouring continuously for days, even weeks, we tend to feel slightly chilly bringing us risk of catching cold etc. as the humidity is perfect breeding ground for germs. Scarves and stoles give us another level of style statement. Carry waterproof purses and try not to eat from outside, just out of concerns.

Just remember one last thing, smile is the best accessory and staying happy is the best preventive measure to keep our moods elevated.

Happy Monsoon!
